Title: About Us
Thread Modes
As one of the members of The Prose Stylist Forum, I send greetings on behalf of the people of our group. We are a small company of writers working on improving our craft through study, practice, and play. Each week we post a poem, a short selection of prose, and engage our brains in a creativity and writing challenge. We also have daily sentence and paragraph prompts, discussions, brainstorming sessions, and anything else uplifting or enriching. There is a lot going on and a lot to do, but you don't have to participate in everything, only what works for you. Participate once a week, twice a week, or every day. The choice is up to you. In The Prose Stylist, we step out of ourselves into this forum seeking only friendship and knowledge, to teach if we are called upon, to be taught if we are fortunate, to grow if we are dedicated. (Thank you Kurt Waldheim) We are quite aware that our group is but a small part of the world of writers, but we hope that you will be interested in joining us.

Must be 18 years of age or older to join.

Kind regards,

Lord Regent

The Prose Stylist is an online writing workshop to help writers learn, practice, and improve their skills. We encourage and help each other to grow as writers. Our philosophy is that writers need to read, write, edit, critique, study, practice, and play with prose and poetry to improve at the best possible pace. TPS is not a social website; it is a place of learning and sharing, a place to ask questions, a place for discussion, and a place to grow as a writer.

The Prose Stylist is also a place to have fun with words and phrases, sentences and clauses, meter and rhythm and rhyme.

Everyone on this forum is an adult. And I expect everyone to behave like one.

Maturity can be defined as acting appropriately according to the situation. It is never appropriate to speak down to members. It is never appropriate to argue (getting heated) with another member. Discuss? Yes, by all means. Disagree? Of course. But don’t make it personal. Don’t belittle other members. Don’t straw man their arguments or use any of the other logical fallacies, that just shows how weak your position is.

On the other hand, this is not a safe space. People will disagree with you. They will sometimes challenge your views. If you can't handle that, then TPS is not a place for you.

If this sounds good, please join us and participate in the play, the practice, and the fun.

For all it brightens and uplifts, love casts a long shadow.
Every week we have sentence and paragraph prompts, creativity and writing challenges, keep track of our goals, and study sentence patterns or the formulas of rhetoric or play with rhythm, rhyme, and meter.

We do more, much more than study on this group. We have fun, too. There are forums and threads for sharing anything you find beautiful, uplifting, funny, inspirational, educational, or insightful.

We are just getting started now, but where we go is up to the members.

This is a place of learning and fun. Anything that gets in the way of that for the members is not allowed. If you treat everyone with respect, then you won't have any problems here.
Don't be rude.
Don't insult members.
Don't call them names.
Don't put them down.
Don't participate in arguments or flaming.
Act as if this were the ideal classroom.
Discuss in good faith.
Agree to disagree.
Treat everyone you meet here as if they have honorable intentions until they prove otherwise. (Don't assume the worst)
Report any violations of these rules to the Lord Regent.

Comments and suggestions encouraged.
